Nickel-Plated Strip for Battery Packs in India: Sizes, Uses & Buying Guide

Nickel-plated 2P H-type strip for 21700 battery packs

If you assemble lithium battery packs in India, you will buy nickel strip every week. Nickel-plated steel strip is the workhorse for cost-sensitive packs: e-cycles, electric scooters, home inverter conversions, solar street lights and power banks. This guide explains what you are buying, how to pick the size, and how to get clean welds even in monsoon humidity.

What is nickel-plated strip?

It is a thin steel strip with a nickel coating on both faces. The steel core gives strength and keeps the price low. The nickel layer gives a surface that spot-welds well to the cell terminal and resists rust. Plating thickness varies by grade, so always confirm the plating spec for the size you need before a large order.

Where Indian pack makers use it

How to read the sizes

Our listings follow a simple pattern. 1P is a single plain strip, for example Nickel Strip Plated 1P 8x0.15 mm. 2P is a pre-cut strip that joins two cells in parallel, for example 2P (21700) 31x0.15 mm. The number in brackets is the cell format, and CD is the centre-to-centre distance between the two cells. Some 2P variants add a slit, a holder cut-out or a fuse-type profile.

StripCross-sectionTypical use
8 x 0.15 mm1.2 mm²Low-current cell-to-cell links, small packs
10 x 0.15 mm1.5 mm²Light e-cycle and lantern packs
10 x 0.30 mm3.0 mm²Higher-current series links and main runs

Cross-section is simply width times thickness. A bigger cross-section carries more current with less heating, so for a higher-current pack use a thicker strip, several strips in parallel, or switch to pure nickel strip. Our 18650 vs 21700 vs 32650 sizing guide goes deeper.

Plated or pure: a quick rule

Choose plated when cost per pack matters and the discharge current is modest. Choose pure nickel when the pack runs hot, discharges hard, or has to last many years. Our plated vs pure comparison covers the trade-offs.

Welding and storage tips for Indian weather

  1. Keep it dry. During the monsoon, store strip in sealed bags with silica gel. Surface oxidation is the most common cause of weak, inconsistent welds.
  2. Wipe before welding. A clean, dry surface lets the weld nugget form evenly.
  3. Test your settings. Spot-weld a sample strip, pull it by hand and check that the strip tears, not the nugget. Adjust energy for each thickness.
  4. Mind the heat. Do not dwell on one cell terminal. Overheating damages the cell.

This is general guidance. Always validate strip size, welding settings and pack safety against your own design and the standards that apply to your product.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use nickel-plated strip for a 48 V e-bike battery?

Often yes, if the current per strip stays within a safe limit. For heavy-current packs use a thicker strip, more strips in parallel, or pure nickel. Share your pack current with us and we will suggest a size.

What does 2P and CD mean in the product names?

2P means one strip joins two cells in parallel. CD is the centre-to-centre distance between those two cells. Pick the CD that matches your cell holder or pack layout.

What is the minimum order quantity?

It is shown on each product page. For example, the 1P 8x0.15 mm strip lists a minimum of 4 kg. You can add it to your quote and confirm on WhatsApp.

Do you deliver across India?

Yes. We dispatch from Noida to pack makers in Delhi NCR, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and other cities. Tell us your city when you request a quote.

How should I store nickel strip during the monsoon?

Keep it sealed in a dry bag with silica gel and avoid opening coils in humid air. Dry strip welds more consistently.
