Nickel Strip for Power Tool and Cordless Battery Packs in India

Power tools, cordless garden equipment and drones push batteries harder than almost any other consumer application: short bursts of very high current, repeated start-stop cycles, and real mechanical vibration during use. The nickel strip joining the cells has to survive all three without becoming the weak point in the pack.
Why power tool packs are a high-current case
A cordless drill or angle grinder can draw tens of amps in short bursts — far higher relative to cell capacity than a typical e-bike cruise load. That peak current, even if brief, generates real heat at every interconnect. A pack that only gets evaluated at average current can still fail at peak load if the strip is undersized.
Pure nickel is the standard choice here
Because of the high peak current, pure nickel strip is the usual choice for power tool and high-drain packs rather than plated steel — its lower resistance keeps peak-current heating under control. See our 2P pure nickel strip for 21700 cells, commonly used in modern high-drain power tool packs, or 2P for 18650 cells for older-format tool batteries.
Vibration changes the weld requirement, not just the strip
- More weld points, not just bigger strip. A tool that vibrates during use benefits from additional weld spots per joint beyond the minimum, to resist fatigue cracking at the weld over the tool's working life.
- Strain relief in the layout. Avoid long unsupported spans of strip between cells; vibration concentrates stress where strip is unsupported.
- Consistent weld quality matters more here than in a static pack. A borderline weld that would survive in a stationary solar battery can fail under repeated vibration. See our spot welding guide for weld-quality basics.
Drones: the extreme case
Drone packs combine very high peak current (for motor acceleration) with the lowest possible added weight — pushing builders toward the thinnest strip that can still carry the current safely, which leaves very little margin for a weak weld. If you are building drone packs, this is the application where strip sizing and weld quality matter the most; use our sizing calculation guide and test each weld batch before committing to a flight pack.

Frequently asked questions
Should I use plated or pure nickel strip for a power tool battery?
Pure nickel is the standard choice for power tools because of the high peak current during use. Plated strip is better suited to lower-current, cost-sensitive packs.
Does vibration affect nickel strip welds?
Yes. Repeated vibration can fatigue a weld over time. Tools and drones benefit from extra weld points and strip layouts that avoid long unsupported spans.
What strip size suits a drone battery pack?
It depends on your motor’s peak current draw and your weight budget. Calculate the cross-section needed for your peak current, then weigh that against how much strip weight your drone can carry.
Can I get small quantities for prototyping a power tool pack?
Yes, check the minimum order quantity shown on each product, and contact us on WhatsApp if you need a smaller prototype quantity.
