E-Rickshaw & E-Auto
Nickel Strip and Copper Busbar for E-Rickshaw & E-Auto Battery Packs in India

India has more electric three-wheelers on its roads than any other country, and most of that fleet is switching from lead-acid to lithium. E-rickshaw and e-auto packs run a harder life than a personal e-scooter: multiple daily deep-discharge cycles, driver-operated fast charging between trips, and tight cost pressure from fleet owners. The interconnects you choose directly affect how long a pack survives that duty cycle.
Why e-rickshaw packs are tougher on interconnects
A personal e-scooter might get one charge-discharge cycle a day. An e-rickshaw running shared-auto or delivery routes can see 2-3 cycles daily, often with fast top-up charging at a stand between trips. Every cycle flexes and heats the weld or bolted joint a little. Interconnects that are marginally sized for a hobby pack can fail well before their expected life in a daily-commercial e-rickshaw.
Prismatic or cylindrical: different interconnect, different job
| Pack style | Common in e-rickshaw/e-auto | Interconnect |
|---|---|---|
| Prismatic LFP cells (large format) | Most new-generation e-rickshaw packs | Bolted copper busbar |
| Cylindrical cells (18650/21700/32650) | Compact or retrofit packs | Spot-welded nickel strip |
For cylindrical packs, plated strip is the common choice for e-rickshaw builds where cost per pack matters more than squeezing out the last bit of range — see our plated strip guide. For higher-current or longer-life fleet packs, pure nickel is worth the extra cost.
Sizing for e-rickshaw current draw
A typical e-rickshaw motor draws well above what a two-wheeler does, especially with a loaded cabin and Indian road conditions (stop-start traffic, inclines, overloading). Undersized strip or busbar runs hot exactly where you can least afford it: in a sealed under-seat battery box in summer. Use our strip sizing calculation guide or the copper busbar sizing guide to size for your pack's real continuous and peak current, not just the cell's rated capacity.
Battery swapping fleets: a special case
If your packs are built for a swapping network, they get removed, charged and reinstalled far more often than a fixed pack. Bolted copper busbar connections that see repeated removal need periodic torque checks, since vibration and thermal cycling can loosen a joint over hundreds of swap cycles. Build an inspection step for busbar torque into your swap-station maintenance routine.

Frequently asked questions
Is copper busbar or nickel strip better for e-rickshaw packs?
It depends on the cell format. Large prismatic LFP cells use bolted copper busbar; cylindrical-cell packs use spot-welded nickel strip. Most new e-rickshaw packs in India use prismatic cells.
How often should busbar bolts be checked on a swapping fleet?
There is no universal interval — follow your pack maker’s maintenance schedule. As a general practice, include torque checks in periodic swap-station servicing, since repeated handling and vibration can loosen joints over time.
Can plated nickel strip handle e-rickshaw current loads?
Often yes for standard loads, but e-rickshaws draw more current than a typical two-wheeler. Size the strip for your actual continuous and peak current, and consider pure nickel for higher-load or long-life fleet packs.
Do you supply fleet quantities for e-rickshaw manufacturers?
Yes, we supply bulk quantities with GST invoice from Noida. Share your monthly volume and pack design and we will quote accordingly.
